The Wine Pig

Conde de Valdemar Rioja Crianza is a wine that I often overlook on my shelves, not because it lacks quality or value, but because it typically sells itself. However, just because a wine is popular, doesn’t mean it doesn’t deserve to be feature here, so here goes:

Rioja is one of my favorite wine regions, producing wines of deep, rich character, often with bright fruit, framed by approachable tannins and spicy oak notes. Primarily made up of Tempranillo and Garnacha, Riojas with the Crianza classification are aged a minimum of two years, with at least one year in oak.

I highly recommend Conde de Valdemar’s wines, but try them for yourself and let me know what you think!

Yellow + Blue is a new line-up out of Argentina that I am Super-Excited about, it uses 100% organically grown grapes, but that is just the beginning. Anyone who knows me can tell you that I refuse to buy or recommend a wine based solely on the environmental impact it makes, what I want to know is: How does it taste?

Here’s the answer: Wine-blogger Dr. Tyler Colman called the Malbec “a crazy-good value”, Food & Wine recommended it as one of their 5 favorite Torrontes’ and one of the best reds for $10 - $20.

That’s all well and good, but you want to know what I think right?

I think you would be cheating yourself out of a diamond-in-the-rough if you miss out on these wines. Try it, enjoy it, share it with your friends, and know that all the while, you’re doing something positive for the planet.

Picpoul is the name of the grape (meaning “lip-stinger”). This is a wine that you love, even if you don’t know it yet. Light, crisp, not sweet, but not bone-dry either, with a happy little zing of lemon zest on the finish that leaves you thirsty for more.
