The Wine of the Week UNDER $15! - Borsao “Tres Picos” Garnacha

borsao_tres_picos2005.jpg

Now here is a treat that is rich and full, silky and seductive, with sweet blackberries and strawberries rounded out by notes of leather and vanilla. Garnacha (Grenache) is one of my favorite varietals, and Bodegas Borsao makes some of the most reliable values in all of Spain. Not that you care about scores, but Tres Picos is a perennial 90+ point wine from both The Wine Advocate AND Wine Spectator.

Kremser Weinzierl Gruner Veltliner - The Wine of the Week UNDER $15

gruner31

It seems like every time I blink, here comes a new Gruner into the market. Most are good but not memorable, and the memorable ones are typically closer to $20 than $10.

Kremser Weinzierl Gruner Veltliner is definitely an exception. Piercingly crisp acidity melds with soft pear and melon flavors to produce a wine that is crisp, bright and refreshing. A great choice for sushi, shellfish, a light summer salad or just by itself, no matter how you drink it, you won’t be disappointed.

Alexander Valley Vineyards New Gewurz - The Wine of the Week UNDER $15

Alexander Valley Vineyards’ New Gewurz is a pleasant change of pace from typical domestic Gewurztraminers. Barely off-dry on the palate, the expected rose petal aromas and stone fruits burst out of the glass, with zinging acidity. When I think of this wine, thoughts of my backyard come to mind, a bright, warm summer day, firing up the grill for some nice BBQ, and relaxing. I think  this is one wine choice that is a no-brainer.
